You don’t have to be a videogame nerd to know what Plants vs Zombies is – that’s how huge it is. The ultra popular game has strategy elements that appeal to hardcore gamers, but a key part of its breakout success with more general audiences has to do with its unique premise pitting houseplants – talk about unlikely heroes – against hordes of the undead. Fans can now pick up oodles of merchandise featuring the game’s signature style, from t-shirts to lottery tickets. And, included in all that are a variety of cool Plants vs Zombies plush toys.
This particular plushie is based on the controversial Michael Jackson zombie that was eventually removed from the game after complaints from the singer’s estate (it was actually intended as a Thriller tribute and not a tasteless shot at Jackson, but what are you gonna do?). You can find other familiar figures from the game as well. Here are a couple examples (click the images to go to the Amazon product page).
You don’t really have to be fan of the game to enjoy these plushies. They have an awesome look that combines edgy and cute in a way that makes them accessible to all. This fun art style should appeal to any zombie lover or collector of unusual plushies, even if (somehow) they’ve never heard of the game.
On the other hand, if you are buying for someone who’s logged a lot of time on Plants vs Zombies, make sure you buy a pair of these plushies – one plant and one zombie. It just wouldn’t be right not to have both sides represented. Plus, you can have them fight.
