The original Ten Little Injuns poem is not only as politically incorrect as the name would suggest, but also freaking gruesome (“Two little Injuns foolin’ with a gun, One shot t’other and then there was one”). A bunch of sanitized versions have come out over the years featuring more pleasant things like monkeys and ladybugs. Ten Little Zombies: A Love Story brings things full circle, re-introducing the morbid style of the poem by adding zombies to the mix.
Like most zombie material, this book by author Andy Rash blends multiple genres. It’s in the style of a children’s book, with a story that melds horror and romance. Cute but edgy, it’s the sort of thing you might give to your significant other on Valentine’s Day (especially if your girlfriend or boyfriend happens to be a zombie fan). Children may actually enjoy the book as well, but YKMV (Your Kids May Vary).
Speaking of which, this book parody seems like a particularly good gift for parents who have to endure a lot of children’s entertainment. If you’re looking more ideas in the same vein, check out our feature article on children’s books for adults.
